It’s that time of the year again, when the world looks to Apple for the new iPhone. This year it’s the iPhone 7 with rumors of dual-lens camera and a possible third model – the iPhone 7 Pro following the direction of the iPad Pro.
Sources have yet to confirm whether there will really be an iPhone 7 Pro, however, a lot have been speculated about the features of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
There are actually shell models of the iPhone 7 that have been released to the public, so we have a pretty clear idea of what the new iPhone will look like.
The most obvious upgrade is the bigger camera on the back of the phone and the new unobtrusive placement of the antennae bands on the edge of the phone. Compared to the iPhone 6 and 6s the iPhone 7 boasts a cleaner design.
There have also been rumors that the iPhone 7 will come in a new color, specifically “space black” reminiscent of the earlier iPhone models, that came in black only.
Surprisingly the prototypes reveal that Apple will do away with the studio jack in the new iPhone and that the headphones that come with the phone will be “lightning based” meaning that it will be connected to the iPhone through the usb port used when charging and syncing. In place of the studio jack are more speakers.
This measure is reportedly to make the iPhone become more water and dust resistant. Accordingly, the iPhone 7 and 7 plus will also come without the home button. It will instead be replaced by a “capacitive flush” home button that has a 3D touch mimicking feature. This means that the physical home button will no longer be on the front of the iPhone but its function will remain as in the previous iPhones.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will also have a bigger battery allowing for 1-2 hours of added battery life.
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus may get the same features that iPad Pro has including “true tone” which is a background setting in iPad Pro that matches the color temperature of your surroundings. The iPhone 7 series is also expected to have p3 spec for better high definition display.
The tech world anticipates that Apple’s partnership with Intel will mean higher LTE speeds for the iPhone 7 reaching 300 to 450 megabit download per seconds. They also predict that the base storage for the new iPhone will be 32 GB.
Aside from the bigger camera with reportedly better sensors on the standard size iPhone 7, the dual lens camera in the iPhone 7 Plus is the feature which takes the cake for this iPhone upgrade.
Huawei was the first to introduce dual- lens in smartphones with the Huawei P9 smartphone. It received good reviews from critics who praised Huawei’s collaboration with Leica to produce the dual-lens for the smartphone. Huawei P9 has the ability to focus on a single subject while blurring its background as well as having different filters for each camera lens.
For Apple users, the integration of the dual lens feature in the iPhone 7 may mean a new trend in how they use the iPhone for taking and editing pictures.
The release of the iPhone 7 is expected to be announced on September 8-12, around the same time Apple announced the release of iPhone 6 last year and be available in stores by the end of September or in early October.
